NTLP to be a Participating Organization of the LA Film Festival!

Film Independent’s Los Angeles Film Festival, presented by Los Angeles Times, showcases the best of American and international cinema. The Festival is held in the heart of Westwood Village and screens more than 250 narrative, documentary, short film, and international features to a diverse audience of 83,000. From VIP galas to celebrity-studded premieres, the Los Angeles Film Festival highlights film from every corner of the globe.

As a participating organization, NTLP will host a screening of the film, After the Storm on Sunday, June 21, 4:30pm at the Mann Festival Theater and Thursday, June 25, 7:00pm at the Regent. After the Storm is a feature documentary that captures a group of New York based artists who were inspired to help the youth of New Orleans after the devastation left in the wake of Hurricane Katrina. It follows a production of “Once on this Island” at the St. Marks Community Center, which casts a group of young teenagers who survived the storm. The film follows the crew and the kids from the first day of auditions, through the opening night performance, and onto New York City where the kids perform to a sold-out crowd in an Off-Broadway theater. The film reveals the enduring hardships of present-day New Orleans through the eyes of children who live there and the crew that comes to their aid.

NTLP representatives will be on hand before each screening to talk about our upcoming summer program.

The Power of Assets – Making a Difference for Youth!

DJ Peterson, MPA, is a presenter, trainer, educator, and Magician (!) with over 30 years of experience in youth development. He is the Executive Director of the Vision Coalition of El Dorado Hills and a national speaker. DJ has provided training to thousands of educators, community members, and young people in hundreds of schools throughout California.

Using audience participation and astounding feats of magic to illustrate his points, DJ will talk about why we need positive youth development through asset building, what the 40 developmental assets are, and examples of how parents, schools, communities, and youth in California are building youth assets.

Future packets to registered students will include parent registration information.

Where are they now? - Jake Dire

Jake attended our Washington program in 2000 and 2001, returning to staff in 2002. After graduating from Juanita High in 2001, he attended Colorado State University, graduating with honors with a degree in business in 2005.

From there Jake moved to Santa Barbara, CA and worked in advertising for two years. He then took a break and traveled to Fiji, New Zealand, and Australia for two months, before returning to Denver, CO for a sales job in the Vacation Properties industry with Wyndham. Then in January '09, Jake launched his own Green Real Estate and Marketing company called EcoMark. Right now he is an active real estate agent helping people buy and sell homes while specializing in helping them find and/or renovate their homes to be more energy efficient and sustainable.

They are currently launching a "Referral Rewards" program that will reward all friends and family for any referrals you send their way! Even though they are in Denver, if you know someone that needs help buying or selling a home, Jake can refer them to a trustworthy Keller Williams agent in the area. His new company will be rewarded for any referral they give which will help them grow, and in return they will reward you with a great gift!

In addition to referral rewards, Jake’s company will donate a portion of their proceeds from every closing to a charity that supports a similar cause such as alternative energy, eco-friendly, building homes for those in need, etc.

Check out Jake’s business at: www.ecomarkgroup.com. If you have a question for Jake about Colorado State University, a Business degree, real estate advice or ‘going green’ contact Jake HERE! (j.dire@ecomarkgroup.com)
